Or, what to do with a stained shirt.
In the past, I've camouflaged the stains on Maia's shirts with appliques (like these). But this time I decided to try something new.
Maybe I'm just not very good at stain removal, but the whole bottom half of this shirt was stained. I cut off the stained section (except for a small stain that would be concealed by the hem) and planned to turn the top half of the shirt into a new dress for Maia.
I cut a rectangle of blue striped fabric about 17 by 40 inches (shown here folded in half), using an existing dress of Maia's to help me judge the size. Then I sewed up the side with right sides of the fabric facing each other.
Next I sewed a basting stitch around the top and pulled the threads to gather the fabric enough to match up with the shirt edge. I pinned the shirt to skirt, right sides facing each other, and sewed. Then I added a zigzag stitch at the very edge to keep the fabric from unraveling.
Finally, I hemmed the bottom. I love this! I might look through Maia's closet for other t-shirts to convert...
