We made these felt-covered rocks on Friday with a couple of friends, following this tutorial at resurrection fern. So fun!
I have to say that it was more fun for the mamas than for the kids though. They each enjoying making one, then moved on to playing dress up. Perhaps older kids (or just different ones) would have more staying power. Although I remember Maia enjoyed making the felt eggs this past Spring. And the rocks are actually easier because you start with something (the rock) to wrap the wool around.
Maia has claimed complete ownership of the finished felted rocks. So far they've been food for her bears, candy for us, and some sort of game with rules that I didn't quite get.
I'm loving resurrection fern's blog by the way, especially her whimsical photos combining nature and her own handmade lovelies (lacy crochet-covered rocks! tiny knit acorns!). She sells her photos on etsy, too. I might have to buy one soon -- maybe as an early Christmas present for myself.
