I finally dusted off the sewing machine the other night and whipped up a quick little dress for Maia. I've hardly done any sewing since Daphne was born, so it felt good to get back on. And, of course, the list of projects I want to make is a mile long!
But I started with this dress for Maia, using one of her t-shirts and some pretty pink and red flowered fabric I picked up recently in anticipation of sewing once again. Here's my tutorial for this dress. The only thing I did differently this time is added a ruffle along the bottom, using some black and white striped fabric for a cute contrast.
These photos were taken at the Arboretum. We went there yesterday for a few hours of exploration and walking around. It was a beautiful, sunny spring day. Just perfect.
I think I'll have to add large pockets to the next dress I make for Maia for all the treasures she picks up. You know -- the stones, leaves, flowers, bugs. I'm glad she's not squeamish about insects, but don't really want to be asked to carry a beetle half the size of my thumb!
I thought about adding a small applique or maybe freezer paper stencil to the top, but waffled over the decision for too long. What do you think? Should I leave the dress as is or add a little flower or something else?
By the way, I'm super inspired by this post on girls clothes tutorials on elsie marley. She also has one for boys. And, as if that's not enough, she posted a kids clothes making challenge for the 2nd week in May which I'm planning to participate in.
